Stay-Cation Experience at Discovery Suites Hotel, Ortigas, Pasig City

Discovery Suites hotel and Resort is a well-known hotel to all travelers in the Philippines as its branches scattered in some tourist destination in the Philippines. Among those branches are located in particular at Tagaytay City, Coron Island Palawan, and Boracay Island. Once again, my travel buddy, Joanne, and I never failed to book for a reservation via online promotions as it was posted freshly over the net. But the hotel branch we preferred to stay-in was within the Metro Manila only, and hence Discovery Suites hotel in Ortigas, Pasig City branch was the place to be. Few meters walk to SM Megamall and Podium that is located in the heart of central business district of Pasig City.

Hotel indoor view from the front desk at level 1.

Just like any other hotel in the metro, all the staffs of Discovery Suites are very accommodating and approachable to their customer needs. Also, I could say that, it is one of the hotels that has the most turned-greeting staff as they do not fail to greet their customers a Good Morning, Good Afternoon or even Enjoy Your Day with a smile on their face whenever they see you in every corners of the hotel. The typical check-in and check-out time of the suite rooms are 3pm and 12-noon respectively. They are very strict with respect to time commitment. Wether, you’re in an early check-in or late check-out, it will be automatically charge you for an additional payment. Unless otherwise you negotiate your side. In our case, we arrived at around 2:45pm to have a 3pm check-in, as mentioned in the voucher. We immediately went to hotel front desk to have a check-in, as we understood and just like any other hotel, that upon processing the reservation verification they should have to provide us the room number as well as the room key promptly. But the situation was different, they referred us to 22nd floor where the Serendipity Lounge is, and we have to wait for certain minutes for our cue to proceed to our assigned hotel room assisted by their staff. We spent around 30-45 minutes waiting to provide our room assignment in a not well ventilated lounge as it was so hot and I thought they forgot to turn-on their ACU. We as well as with other guests made a several follow-up over the lounge desk since we were in a group of more than eight (I think) waiting for almost an hour for our room assignment only. We were just wondering that despite we had a confirmed reservation thru online, still the hotel failed us to provide the room assignment immediately in the front desk during our check-in verification. Upon waiting, they provided us the welcome drinks, fruit juice, as it was included in the package service offer of the hotel.

Junior suite with two queen-sized bed.

We availed the junior suite room that has two (2) queen-sized bed amounting to Php4,500 only for an overnight staying. Package inclusion are free wifi, cable TV, bathroom with hot and cold water, free breakfast for two, plus usage of amenities such as swimming pool and billiards. The room is so neat and very pleasant to eye-sight, from interiors to furnitures, all were well-arranged properly. It could accommodate  even six (6) more persons since beds are quite large.

Breakfast time at the R5 restaurant located at the fifth level of the building starts at 7am to 10:30am. There are only certain numbers of selection of breakfast meal that you could choose to eat. Some of the menus are; scrambled egg, bacon, bread, fish tofu, hotdog sausage, Lucban longanisa, pan cake and other typical breakfast meal. Breakfast buffet in other hotel caters wide selection of type of dishes, from Continental to Italian. However, in this hotel, there’s no special on their food list. There’s no need for you to show some food stub, ‘coz’ you are already entitled for a breakfast buffet meal since you’re already booked in the hotel unlike other hotels that still needs stub for a proof. Aside from a breakfast buffet resto, here’s I think a better place for the food hunter. There’s also an executive formal dine-in cuisine in the hotel that is located in the 22nd level along with the Serendipity Lounge, the 22 Prime.  It is an excellent place for a Steak as their best seller, a bit pricey but worth every penny.

4-feet super cold indoor pool.

Discovery Suites has a unique swimming pool amenity that is located within the building. The 4-feet pool has a very cold water that you could resist to swim at first, maybe because it’s an indoor type  that never touched by the sunshine, thus,  failed to keep it warm. There’s a mini Jacuzzi near the pool to help you on keeping warm. I could say that this water pool amenities are recommended for the kids since it’s only a 4-feet deep also not so big in size.

Overall, we had a great time relaxing on that hotel, its all worth it.

The room looks really comfortable, especially the beds! Sad to hear that the pool was that cold. I hate it when hotels have pools that are not inviting. Thanks for the review 🙂
