The Explorer

Coron, Palawan

        Coron is a first class municipality in the province of Palawan. It is usually covers the eastern part of Busuanga and group of islands with numbers of islets known as the Calamian Group of Islands. It is a perfect spot for divers and underwater enthusiasts. Dozens of Japanese warships sunk during  the world war scattered in all over the group of islands. These sunken shipwrecks are the diving target of all tourists because of its beautiful view underwater. At depths ranges between 10 to 40-meters off the island, makes Coron  and its nearby municipalities popular in diving activities. Same situation with other rural municipalities in the country, power interruption for every 2-3 hours is a common problem encountered by many of the residents. Despite of this problem, many local and foreign tourists are still patronizing the beauty of Coron to have some relaxation experience. No wonder everywhere in town you would see are obviously town tourists. I could say that everyday is a busy day for the local residents accommodating their local and foreign visitors as it is the main source of their income, from local restaurant, relaxing accommodation, public transportation to variety of souvenir shops. The people of Coron province are hospitable and friendly.

     During the planning of going to Coron, Palawan, my girlfriend and I browsed over the net looking for the best and reasonable price tour package offer. We saw Calamian Travel and Tours website and explored their package offers. We thought they have a reasonable rate as we saw their variety package offers and inclusive. We immediately booked for a reservation for two (Coron Adventure Package, 4D/3N)).

How to get there in Coron, Palawan?

     Coron is accessible from Manila. Just check the website of PAL and CebuPac regarding flight schedules and availability heading to Busuanga. It will take about one-hour to reach Busuanga Airport. Upon arrival at the airport, you need another 40-minute land travel from Busuanga going to Coron town proper. This time depends on how you prefer on how you will get there. If you already have a reservation on a tour package, it is surely includes a van, airport pick-up, that would get you in your accommodation somewhere in Coron town proper. Unless otherwise, you prefer to take other means of transpo within the airport to get you in Coron (such as tricycle, van rental etc.). Other options in going to Coron aside from via air travel, you can also try thru sea travel by checking Superferry website regarding on their trip schedules and fares, I think it would take you for about 12-hours travel in the sea before you reach the Coron port.

Where to stay in Coron?

     There are several hotel accommodations in Coron that you can choose to stay depends on your budget. Some of those are as follows; Sea Dive Resort, Kokosnuss Garden Resort, Coron West Town Resort, Coron Hill Top View, and many more. In our case, our accommodation is already included in our tour package. We stayed at Coron Eco Lodge, it has a clean air-conditioned rooms with private rest room and cable TV. At the lobby, there is a free wifi access. The staffs are very accommodating in our needs, the preparation of their free breakfasts (which is also included in our acquired package) is good and we were satisfied. My grades to them as 5-smileys as being the highest;

     Me and my girlfriend are actually have in common wherever we travel far from busy Manila, that is to explore different local dishes in a certain place. And so, in Coron, since we have breakfast and lunch inclusion in our stayed accommodation and in the island respectively. Just like our other local travel, we explored local restaurants at night for a dinner :). We tried meals from Kawayanan Grill Station and Lolo Nonoy’s Food Station. These two restaurants have both in common, aside from the fact that their foods were being served in so satisfying and mouth watering taste, the ambiance are both classical and traditional in view. They have small gazebo and nipa hut to take dinner in place. Their service are good and price are reasonable. They only differ in geographic locations. To get you in Kawayanan Grill, you have to take a tricycle for a ride in few minutes trip and it’s quite far from the town proper. Lolo Nonoy’s in contrary, is just near from the town proper, and it’s only a few walk from our accommodation to reach it. Kawayanan Grill is more a bit pricey as compared to Lolo Nonoy’s but once you taste their food offerings, it will surely satisfied your starving. Exploring other local restaurants in town was such a wonderful experience, not only exploring the town delicacies and food specialties but also familiarizing the place different road and street routes. All have been paid-off  after we were full-filled and satisfied by the yummylicious meals we had during those nights.
